New Kalpathy Grama Samooha Projects
The draconian Kerala Act 1967 snatched away the little landed properties
the temple had without any compensation and the villagers suddenly found
themselves with no funds for conduct of even regular poojas at the temple.
For few years there after festivals and poojas became a very low-key
affair. Each householder used to contribute Rs.1/- per month and a little
quantity of oil for continuing the daily poojas. Maintenance of temple
could not be attended to for want of funds. Then during 1972, The New
Kalpathy Grama Jana Samooham, which remained a dormant body all these
years, was activated with a new set up and concept. They floated the
popular Nitya - Nivedyam found to supplement the paltry income from the
endowments. Within a few years, thanks to the generous and spontaneous
contributions from our villagers the Samooham established itself on a sound
financial footing and villagers were able to look ahead and conceive
progressive schemes to tackle their social problems, simultaneously taking
care of the reasonable needs of our temple for Nitya Pooja, Vedaparayanam,
conduct of festivals etc., The Maha Ganapathy Kalyanamandapam is one such
project which is very popular and patronized by even the surrounding
villagers as they have no commercial interest in this project. This has been
completed at a total cost of Rs.25 lakhs and is fully equipped. We are
extending now financial assistance to the needy among the villagers for
continuing education, conduct of obligatory religious functions, medical
expenses etc., in a moderate way.
Future projects of the Samooham with special emphasis on social and
cultural matters :
