| Sri Narasimha Swamy Temple |
|
History
The temple is in the caves. Lord Narasimha is the bass relief out of an excavated cave in Namakkal. Here Lord Narasimha is a Ugramurthy, i.e., in a fierce mode. The god is enshrined as slaying Hiranyakasyap with other angels (devas) and the great Prahlad are praying around the Lord.
Namagiri Amman is the Lakshmi in Namkkal. Ramanujam, the great mathematician from India has stated that Namagiri Amman used to appear in his dreams and help him solve many complex mathematical issues. Even today, people who want to pursue higher studies in mathematics or puplis who are weak in mathematics perform special puja for Namgiri amman and derive great benefits.
The other deity Anjaneya Swamy is a 40 feet high stone idol. The idol has no roof on its top. It is reported that the idol used to grow every year but has since stopped growing. |
